Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu(BJJ) is arguably the most practical and effective martial art with strong roots in grappling. It became popular after Royce Gracie, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fighter, defeated many much larger and stronger opponents in the UFC.
Dainis Nguyen - Biography
Most people in the local Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community are well aware that I have a Judo background, which is where my martial arts journey all began. I was 8 years old when my father enrolled my younger sister (Yacinta) and myself into a Judo program.
If you're looking for somewhere for you or your kids to learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu(BJJ) or Judo in Durham than you've come to the right place!
Having kids is challenging and often parents let themselves go, using their kids as an excuse. We understand having kids presents difficulties, but that does not mean you have to stop exercising. Kids will imitate their parents. Make BJJ part of your family routine. We have basic fundamental classes that will start you off at ground zero, learn with your kids. No matter what sport or activity your kids want to do, it is important for them to be active.
Every child should be put into some type of developmental activity when they are young, whether it is soccer, gymnastics, or martial arts. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is quite possibly the best sport you could start a child in though. It promotes confidence, discipline, respect, and many other developmental qualities. Children are very receptive to learning when they are young, and as they grow they absorb everything they see and listen to.
At Team DNA we surround them in a positive atmosphere so that they grow as an individual in a positive sense. Involving your kids in a martial arts program, specifically Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, allows them to do so. Not only will we teach them a form of self-defense, we'll also teach them many life lessons that they will carry with them their entire lives. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is one of the most practical martial arts you can put your child in. When you think about other martial arts, many involve striking. Do you really want your kids striking their peers? If they need to defend themselves in the school yard, they can do so by simply tying up, or restraining a bully, whereas striking leads to blood and bruises, often making them look like the aggressor. We teach our students to use technical maneuvers to defend themselves. We certainly do not encourage children to fight, we teach them to find a way out of the situation, and if there is none, they will be able to defend themselves.
Team DNA will give your child the opportunity to compete if that's something they're interested in. Our kids program is second to none, we have many champions for them to train with, learn from and inspire them. We take care of everyone, new students are never thrown to the lions, we will slowly bring them up to pace, and our senior students will spend time with them during their transition period.
Our instructors Dainis and Sarah, are two of the best at teaching kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and in most cases new students progress and receive promotions very quickly.
Here are some photos of our kids having fun in the gym, and competing at tournaments.
